There is an unlimited number of agile practices – like Scrum, Kanban, XP, SAFe, LeSS, Nexus, Scrum at Scale, and many more. However, there is no more than one agile mindset. It is important to make that distinction because only the agile mindset can unfold all the powers of Agile. In other words: Rather than narrowing down Agile to doing Agile, which is related to simply applying those practices, one should grow a culture of being Agile, which is related to the agile mindset one brings into play when making effective use of agile practices.

The agile mindset implies certain attitudes and behaviors. The latter can be reduced to the essential ones, to the center of Agile – to the Heart of Agile: collaborate, deliver, reflect, and improve. To collaborate, one needs trust, motivation, and genuine collaboration. After all, one collaborates to deliver. One delivers incrementally to generate early revenue. This is the obvious reason. The second reason does not reveal its purpose at first sight: one also delivers early and often to learn early and often. Last but not least, explicitly reflect as it is required to really improve. For instance, to improve how to collaborate more effectively and how to deliver earlier and more often.
